How the UK Graduate Route visa works, who is eligible, how to apply, and how it can lead to a Skilled Worker visa and eventual settlement.

The UK Graduate Route visa allows international students who have completed a degree at a UK university to stay and work (or look for work) in the UK for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates). It is an unsponsored visa โ€” you don't need a job offer to apply.

The UK Government has proposed restricting the Graduate Route for students from certain countries. As of 2025, no changes have been implemented, but stay updated via the UKVI website.

Pathway to Skilled Worker Visa

The Graduate Route gives you time to find a skilled job in the UK. Once you secure a job offer from a licensed sponsor paying at least ยฃ38,700 (or the going rate for your occupation), you can switch to a Skilled Worker visa. After 5 years on a Skilled Worker visa, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) โ€” permanent residency.
